Commission information
The Process
Are you considering commissioning me to do a portrait?
Are you wondering how to go about it?
If so then you are on the right page.
I will need to discuss several things before I can start a portrait but the first step is to email me some details using the ‘Contact Me’ form.
You will need to consider a photo/photos of the subjects (people/pets/background) you would like.
Choose the medium - Acrylic paint or graphite pencil drawing.
Decide on a substrate- Stretched Canvas, Board or Archival Paper (for pencil drawings).
Have an idea of the size you would like.
During your consultation, I can advise you on:
The image/images supplied and their suitability (lighting, detail and clarity),
Composition (best options on how the portrait would look),
Ideal sizing to fit your subject/subjects,
When I can start your portrait.
Once we have agreed on the medium, size, substrate and that the images sent are suitable, along with the price including delivery costs, I will send you a contract to sign. Once the contract is signed, a 25% deposit* will be required.
When the deposit has been paid I will either add you to my booking diary for confirmed start date or start the initial sketch of the portrait (if immediate start is possible). I will send you a picture of the sketch for you to look at. I will ask if you are happy with the likeness - at this stage any major changes will need to be discussed. If you are happy then I will continue with the drawing/painting.
Half way through I will send another picture to see if any changes need to be made (only one major change at this stage and before completion).
On completion, I will send you a picture. Once you have confirmed that you are happy I will request final payment. Once payment has been received, I will arrange delivery. If you live local to me then you can collect your portrait if you wish.
Timescales:
Acrylic paintings can take between 1- 2 months depending on the size, number of subjects and detailed backgrounds. (This is from the point at which you have agreed the initial under drawing).
Graphite pencil drawings can take up to 3 weeks depending on the size, number of subjects and detailed backgrounds. (This is from the point at which you have agreed the initial sketch).
I can get booked up and therefore I may not be able to start your portrait straight away but I will advise you during your consultation of my availability.
*Deposit is non-refundable due to the cost of obtaining materials.
